Structural Detailer

The company is a leading steel fabricator in the mining and civil industry and has fabrication workshops in Potchefstroom. The company is looking for a Structural Steel Detailer for client steelwork modelling and detailing making use of the Tekla Structures program.

Modelling & Design support

• Import, create and maintain 3D structural steel models.
• Develop steel structures using Tekla Structures.
• Perform clash detection and resolve design conflicts.
• Assist engineers with design modifications and revisions.

Structural Steel Detailing

• Produce detailed structural steel fabrication drawings.
• Develop erection and assembly drawings for site installation.
• Generate workshop and shop drawings for fabrication.
• Create detailed connection drawings for bolted and welded assemblies.
• Interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications.
• Ensure all drawings comply with project requirements and engineering standards.

Project Coordination

• Liaise with engineers, project managers, clients, and workshop personnel.
• Coordinate drawing revisions and maintain drawing registers.
• Ensure drawing issue status and revision control are maintained.
• Provide technical support to fabrication and site teams.

Fabrication Support

• Generate cutting lists and material schedules.
• Produce NC files for CNC machinery as required.
• Assist with resolution of fabrication queries from workshop personnel.
• Assist with drawing related quality control documentation and as-built drawings.

Quality Assurance

• Review drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure compliance with:
  • SANS standards
  • South African building regulations
  • Industry best practices
  • Client standards and specifications
• Maintain drawing office procedures and standards.

Experience and Qualification

• National Diploma in Draughting, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar field.
• Relevant draughting certification preferred.
• Minimum 3–4 years' experience in structural steel detailing.

Software Proficiency

• Tekla Structures (Essential)
• Microsoft Office Suite (Essential)
• AutoCAD (Advantageous)
• Autodesk Advance Steel (Advantageous)

General experience

• Commercial, industrial, and large-scale structural steel projects.
• Proven experience producing fabrication and erection drawings.
• Structural steel construction methods.
• Steel fabrication procedures.
• Welding symbols and standards.
• Bolted connection design principles.
• SANS codes and standards.
