Overall Responsibility
The SHE Controller's Main Responsibilities Will Be To
- Develop and implement SHE policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local and national regulations.
- Planning, implementing and overseeing company's employee safety at work. The main duty is to ensure that the company adheres to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.
Key Focus Areas
Focus Area 1: Maintain safe healthy and risk-free working environment
- Manage and take responsibility for first aid procedures, IODs and other emergency procedures such as a fire drills; including employee first aid training
- Design, Implement & Manage a SHE Management system complying with 18001 standards
- Ensure compliance to all relevant Safety, Health & Environmental standards, acts & bylaws
- Ensure overall compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993
- Ensure all workplace hazards are identified and communicated to all staff.
- Ensure all new employees and contractors are inducted on the SHE programme
- Ensure site procedures and work instructions are maintained, issued to staff and relevant staff training is conducted
- To ensure accountability of safety risks are adequately addressed and to monitor audits/surveys/maintenance to ensure that fire and explosion risks are minimised
- Own & drive the HIRA programme
- Ownership of fire System: Sprinkler system, DCPs, Remrad, Fire Brigade Relationship
- Own Employee Medical programme and SHE Induction programme
- Coordinate and deal with health and safety committees, department of labor, government bodies and regulating agencies
- Responsible for Workshop Safety (5s and review maintenance SOPs to ensure safe practices are followed)
Focus Area 2: Manufacturing Excellence
- Translate and implement Manufacturing excellence strategy
- Fully understand the Manufacturing excellence strategy
- Coach staff and drive safety Pillar of ME
Focus Area 3: Security
- Manage day to day activities of security staff/company
- Continuously optimise security procedures and policies
- Own site alarm system
- Ensure the brewery and the depot is safeguarded against theft
Focus Area 4: Waste Management
- Manage site waste management
- Initiate a SHP waste recycling programme and drive continuous improvement
- Reduce waste quantities
- Continuously reduce waste management cost
Focus Area 5: Financial Metrics Managed
- Manage annual H&S Budget
- Stock take of H&S consumables and PPE
- Manage Waste Management Budget
Focus Area 6: Leadership, People Management
- Support and entrench the company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and to ensure high performance
- Inspire and motivate the broader SHP team (not just your direct reports) to deliver on goals and maximize individual and the overall company performance
- Perform routine administration of all employees
- Support TNA process and Training plan implementation
- Ensure open communication with Shift and performance management
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- Applicable H&S Background: BTech in Environmental Health or Environmental Management
- SAMTRAC Course advantageous
- NEBOSH Course advantageous
- Valid driver’s licence and own licence
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
