An opportunity is available in the East Rand for a Theatre-qualified nursing professional to join a specialised surgical environment. This role is suited to a technically skilled nurse who understands the demands of theatre and can contribute to safe, efficient and high-quality procedural care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative journey.
  • Prepare patients, equipment and the theatre environment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist with surgical procedures in accordance with relevant competencies and clinical standards.
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection prevention protocols.
  • Ensure surgical instruments, equipment and supplies are appropriately prepared and available.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures and respond appropriately to changes in clinical condition.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetic teams, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and theatre documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, professional standards and applicable healthcare legislation.
  • Promote patient safety and efficient theatre practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • General Nursing Degree or Diploma.
  • Current registration with SANC.
  • Diploma in Operating Theatre Nursing.
  • Relevant experience and technical skills sufficient to meet the critical outputs of the role.
  • Sound knowledge of operating theatre practices, patient safety and infection prevention.
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and key role players will be advantageous.
  • Computer proficiency will be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high clinical standards.
