BESS SYSTEM ENGINEER

Our client is seeking an experienced BESS System Engineer to take technical ownership of industrial-scale Battery Energy Storage System solutions. This is a senior engineering opportunity for a professional with deep BESS expertise who can develop complete system designs while supporting commercial, tendering and project delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design of industrial-scale BESS solutions.
• Develop complete system architectures for high-voltage BESS installations.
• Provide technical input into costing, tendering and solution development.
• Evaluate battery systems, PCS, switchgear, transformers and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Work closely with EPC contractors, customers and internal commercial and project teams.
• Provide technical support throughout project development and delivery.
• Support FAT, commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing activities.
• Travel across South Africa and the SADC region as required.

Requirements

• Engineering degree.
• Minimum 10 years' relevant experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Strong experience with high-voltage BESS, preferably systems above 1 MW.
• Knowledge of BESF 5.3 requirements and applicable standards and regulations.
• Comprehensive understanding of LFP battery chemistry, cell technology and BESS architecture.
• Strong understanding of medium-voltage systems, switchgear and transformer design.
• Knowledge of PCS technology in the approximate 250 kW to 2.5 MW range.
• Ability to develop technically sound and commercially competitive BESS solutions.
• Strong technical communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Willingness to travel within South Africa and the SADC region.
