PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER - CAPE TOWN

Our client is seeking an accomplished Professional Civil Engineer to take on a Principal-level role in Cape Town. This position offers the opportunity to lead technically demanding municipal infrastructure and building-related civil engineering projects while providing professional guidance to multidisciplinary teams and engaging directly with clients and approving authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design and delivery for building developments and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Manage projects from feasibility and concept through detailed design, tender and construction.
• Develop and review civil engineering designs, calculations, reports, drawings and specifications.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to engineers, technologists and BIM/CAD personnel.
• Drive Civil 3D and BIM-enabled project delivery and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Undertake technical reviews, design verification and quality assurance.
• Manage project deliverables, programmes, budgets and technical resources.
• Liaise with clients, municipalities, approving authorities and professional consultants.
• Support fee proposals, tender preparation and business development opportunities.
• Provide construction-stage technical support, respond to RFIs and conduct site inspections where required.
• Provide professional engineering oversight and sign-off where applicable.

Requirements

• BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA.
• Typically 8+ years' relevant consulting engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated competence.
• Proven experience delivering civil infrastructure associated with buildings, developments and municipal projects.
• Strong experience in roads, access infrastructure, bulk earthworks and platform design.
• Experience with stormwater, drainage, sewer, wastewater, potable water, fire water and municipal services.
• Strong knowledge of South African design standards, municipal requirements and engineering codes.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and an understanding of BIM-enabled design.
• Strong technical judgement and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary professional teams.
• City of Cape Town project or approvals experience will be advantageous.
• Structural design experience will be advantageous.
