As an Intermediate Software Engineer at Octoco, you will play a key role in building and delivering high-quality software solutions across a range of projects. You’ll take ownership of features, collaborate closely with your team and clients, and contribute meaningfully throughout the full development lifecycle.
What You’ll Be Doing
Software Engineering
- Break down complex problems into clear, actionable tasks.
- Develop clean, maintainable software using a range of languages and frameworks.
- Own features or modules from design through to development, testing, and deployment.
- Contribute to system design, estimation, and delivery activities.
- Ensure solutions meet technical requirements, business objectives, and quality standards.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with engineers, technical leads, and product stakeholders.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute thoughtful, constructive feedback.
- Support and mentor junior developers in their technical growth.
- Actively engage in planning sessions, retrospectives, and team meetings.
Client Engagement
- Translate business and user needs into effective technical solutions.
- Build strong, professional relationships with clients and internal teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance and service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
- A Bachelor of Engineering or BSc in Computer Science.
- 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Proficiency in 2+ programming languages or frameworks (e.g. C#, TypeScript, Python, .NET, React, Angular). Flutter experience is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Clear communication and effective collaboration skills.
- A sense of ownership and reliability when delivering work.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast-evolving technical environment.
- Must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid work visa/permit.
