Senior Quantity Surveyor - Construction Projects

Our client is looking for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee the financial and contractual performance of construction projects. This role will suit a seasoned QS who can manage the full commercial lifecycle, from subcontractor procurement and cost control through to valuations, claims and final account settlement.

The Role

• Take ownership of project commercial performance from award to completion.
• Monitor budgets, expenditure, cash flow and project profitability.
• Lead subcontractor and supplier procurement and appointments.
• Negotiate commercial terms and manage subcontractor relationships.
• Prepare interim valuations, payment certificates and final accounts.
• Assess and manage variation orders and contractual claims.
• Manage EOT submissions and contractual matters under JBCC and NEC.
• Compile monthly cost reports, forecasts and commercial management information.
• Identify potential commercial risks and implement appropriate controls.
• Provide commercial advice to project managers and site teams.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting and compliance with internal procedures.
• Mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors and contribute to improved commercial processes.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying.
• At least 8-10 years' construction industry experience.
• CCS/Candy certification.
• Training in JBCC and NEC contracts.
• SACQSP registration is advantageous.
• Advanced understanding of construction methods, materials and industry practices.
• Strong contract administration and commercial negotiation experience.
• Demonstrated experience with valuations, variations, EOT claims and final accounts.
• Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience using CCS/Candy, BuildSmart and QS software.
• Excellent communication, reporting and negotiation skills.
• Ability to provide technical and commercial mentorship to junior staff.
