Principal Civil Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Professional Civil Engineer to join their Cape Town team at Principal level. This opportunity is suited to a technically strong and commercially minded professional with extensive consulting experience in municipal infrastructure, building-related civil engineering and multidisciplinary project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of civil infrastructure for building developments and municipal projects.
• Develop and review designs from feasibility and concept through detailed design, tender and construction.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technologists and BIM/CAD personnel.
• Drive Civil 3D and BIM-enabled project delivery and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Undertake technical reviews, design verification and quality assurance.
• Manage project deliverables, programmes, budgets and technical resources.
• Liaise with clients, municipalities, approving authorities and professional consultants.
• Prepare and support tender submissions, fee proposals and project pursuits.
• Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs and conducting site inspections.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc/Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA.
• 8+ years' relevant consulting engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated competence.
• Proven experience in building-related civil infrastructure and municipal engineering projects.
• Strong experience in roads, access infrastructure, bulk earthworks, platforms, stormwater, sewer, wastewater, potable water, fire water and municipal services.
• Strong knowledge of South African engineering standards, municipal requirements and relevant codes.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and understanding of BIM-enabled design.
• Experience preparing and reviewing calculations, reports, drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong technical review, engineering oversight and professional sign-off capabilities.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, clients, developers, contractors and authorities.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Experience in structural design would be advantageous.
• Experience with City of Cape Town projects and approvals would be advantageous.
