Rabinowitz Photography is looking for an Art Consultant to turn their gallery visitors into collectors by hosting them warmly, sharing the stories behind Adam Rabinowitz’s photographs with authenticity, and guiding them towards the right image, edition, size and framing. You will ask for the sale with confidence, follow up thoughtfully when a visitor needs more time, and build lasting relationships with collectors and referral partners.

Main Outcomes

  • Create welcoming, memorable gallery experiences that lead to sales.
  • Grow sales through thoughtful conversations, confident closing and consistent follow-up.
  • Help visitors discover the full collection, including works at the Moorings gallery.
  • Build relationships that encourage repeat purchases and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, orders and sales information.
  • Represent the photography and its conservation context honestly and knowledgeably.

Key Responsibilities

Gallery hosting and sales

  • Welcome visitors promptly and learn what interests them before recommending a piece.
  • Guide customers through images, editions, sizes and framing options, and confidently ask for the sale.
  • Introduce interested visitors to the Moorings gallery and host guided visits, including tour-guide groups.

Storytelling and product knowledge

  • Learn the stories behind the photographs, including the location, wildlife, conservation context and Adam’s creative process.
  • Keep your knowledge current as new works are released.

Collector relationships and follow-up

  • Record serious enquiries accurately in HubSpot, prepare draft orders and follow up promptly.
  • Care for returning collectors and build relationships with tour guides, concierges and other referral partners.

Gallery operations and teamwork

  • Process sales accurately and coordinate framing, packaging and shipping with the Operations team.
  • Keep the galleries ready to welcome visitors throughout the day.
  • Participate in sales meetings, coaching and pop-up activations, including setup and breakdown.

Requirements

  • At least three years’ experience selling considered, high-value products or services face to face, with a proven record of closing sales of more than R20,000 and developing repeat customers.
  • Experience in fine art, jewellery, luxury retail, furniture and dÃcor, hospitality, travel or property would be valuable. Your sales results and approach to customers matter more than the sector you come from.
  • Warm, fluent spoken and written English. An additional language relevant to international visitors is an advantage.
  • Genuine curiosity about wildlife, Africa and photography, with the willingness to learn each collection in depth.
  • Confidence using an iPad, point-of-sale system and CRM, with care for accurate records.
  • A receptive approach to coaching, strong personal initiative and sound judgement with customers and colleagues.
  • Legal authorisation to work in South Africa and availability for a rotating four-days-on, two-days-off roster, including weekends, public holidays and peak-season activations.
