Role Purpose

Develop, maintain, optimise and support SQL-based applications, databases and data solutions within a high-volume claims processing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field (Essential).
  • Strong SQL Server / T-SQL development experience required.
  • Honours degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering or a related field (Advantageous).
  • Relevant SQL Server, database or data engineering certifications (Advantageous).
  • Must have 6+ years of SQL development experience.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining: Stored procedures, Views, Functions, Tables, Indexes, Complex SQL queries, database structures and data solutions.
  • 2–3+ years' experience in healthcare, medical aid, insurance or financial services is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server monitoring tools would be advantageous.
  • Please note: This role is based in Gqeberha, and applicants should either currently reside in Gqeberha or be willing to relocate to the area for this opportunity.

Duties and Responsibilities

SQL Development

  • Develop, maintain and optimise SQL Server databases and database objects.
  • Design, develop and maintain complex stored procedures used by business applications.
  • Develop and maintain tables, views, functions and other database objects.
  • Write efficient, readable, maintainable and reusable T-SQL code.
  • Translate business requirements and business rules into reliable SQL solutions.
  • Ensure solutions comply with development standards and database best practices.

Calculations and Business Rules

  • Develop and validate complex calculations
  • Convert business rules into accurate and efficient SQL logic.
  • Validate calculations against expected business outcomes.
  • Analyse the impact of changes to benefit rules, limits, tariffs and other business rules.
  • Ensure calculations are accurate and consistent across large volumes of transactions.
  • Identify and resolve calculation discrepancies.
  • Assist with incident investigation and preventative measures to reduce recurring issues.

Data Quality and Governance

  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and integrity of data.
  • Identify data quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop SQL queries and processes to validate and reconcile data.
  • Ensure database changes follow appropriate development, testing and production processes.
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation for database solutions and processes.
