Assistant Financial Manager (Cape Town)
We're Looking For An Assistant Financial Manager to join our team, reporting to the Group Financial Manager in our Cape Town offices.
This role suits a detail-oriented, deadline-driven finance professional with a strong grounding in monthly financial reporting, internal controls and statutory compliance. You'll act as a key review layer within the finance function; overseeing the accuracy and quality of work produced by the bookkeeping team before it reaches the Group Financial Manager. It's a great opportunity for a senior accountant ready to step up into an Assistant Financial Manager role, or a Junior Financial Manager looking for their next move.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls, and ensuring the business remains fully compliant on tax, VAT and other statutory filing matters, while supervising a team of around 4 and supporting the Group Financial Manager on budgeting, forecasting and year-end audits.
Key areas include
• Preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs
• Balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger review
• Reviewing debtors and creditors reconciliations, ageing reports and cash flow positions
• Variance analysis and investigation of significant discrepancies
• Financial controls, processes and process improvement
• Tax and VAT compliance, calculations and submissions
• CIPC statutory returns and company secretarial compliance
• Supervising and reviewing the work of 4 bookkeepers
• Support with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow monitoring
• Liaising with auditors and supporting the year-end audit process
What we’re looking for
• BCom Accounting or similar degree, with completed SAICA/SAIPA articles, or CIMA qualified (or nearing completion)
• 4–6 years’ accounting experience, ideally including prior exposure to a Financial Manager or senior reporting role
• Strong working knowledge of monthly reporting, financial controls, tax, VAT and CIPC compliance
• Computer literate with strong ERP experience, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Sage, SAP or Pastel also considered)
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
• Experience supervising or reviewing the work of a bookkeeping/junior accounting team
• High attention to detail, strong analytical ability, and the confidence to work independently
• Prior experience in a similar Assistant Financial Manager or senior accountant role would be advantageous
