Deputy Director: Industry and Environment

The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation is looking for a Deputy Director: Industry and Environments to contribute to the support of research, development and innovation (RDI) in biological processes for the production of goods and services, while enhancing water and waste water-management practises to support green economy.

1. Industrial & Environmental Bioeconomy Development: Drafting and implementing RDI instruments, promoting public awareness through workshops and publications, liaising with stakeholders (industry, academia, government), and contributing to business cases and governance structures.

2. RDI Translation & Commercialisation: Facilitating resource investment across thematic areas (Bioproducts, Bio-based Chemicals, Biomaterials, Bioenergy and Bioremediation), conceptualising business development initiatives, engaging with institutions like CSIR and TIA, and managing contracts and quarterly project reports.

3. Operational & Annual Performance Plan Support: Drafting inputs for the Annual OP, APP and five-year Strategic Plan, reporting on targets, and monitoring the directorate's performance to ensure targets are met.

4. Strategic International Cooperation: Maintaining a network of local and international stakeholders, facilitating partnership engagements across national and regional levels, and preparing technical documents and briefing notes for international engagements.

5. Strategic Advice & Professional Support: Serving as the point of contact for industrial and environmental expertise, writing submissions, cabinet memoranda and briefing notes, and responding to the directorate's administrative requirements

Qualification

NQF level 6 in Life science/ Technology Management. Bachelor’s degree qualification is an added advantage.

Experience

Minimum 3 years working experience in the industry biotechnology sector.

Salary Package: R729 052,00 PA
