Function / Title: Financial Accountant
Department: Finance
Reports to: Financial Manager
Job Purpose
The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial records and reporting processes. The role supports overall financial operations through effective accounting practices, statutory compliance, stock management, and financial administration.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reconciliations
- Perform and post monthly bank reconciliations
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Process month-end journals accurately and timeously
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register
- Calculate and process depreciation
- Reconcile daily cash-ups with bank records
- Ensure accurate calculation and processing of sales commissions
Statutory & Tax Compliance
- Prepare and submit monthly EMP201 returns
- Complete quarterly Stats SA financial questionnaires
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately
- Reconcile VAT accounts
- Ensure payroll-related statutory submissions and payments are compliant and on time
- Maintain accurate reporting and ensure timely submission to relevant authorities
Stock Management
- Conduct regular stock takes
- Process stock adjustments within the system
- Manage stock transfers between locations (e.g., dispatch and tasting room)
- Monitor stock accuracy and resolve discrepancies
- Ensure all stock movements are accurately and timeously recorded
Forex Administration
- Capture and process incoming foreign funds on relevant systems (e.g., NedTreasury)
- Ensure accuracy of all forex-related data prior to submission
Administration & Finance Support
- Provide support and guidance to the finance team on accounting queries
- Assist the Financial Manager with BEE reporting and audits
- Support audit preparation, including working papers and audit queries
- Act as main liaison with banking institutions for administrative matters
- Assist with system integrations (e.g., financial systems)
- Support payroll processes, including casual wages where required
- Contribute to overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function

Qualifications & Experience
- Financial Accounting Diploma or BCom Degree
- SAIPA registration (Registered Professional Accountant)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial and administrative role within a corporate environment
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Business Central advantageous)
- Experience within the wine or related industry advantageous
Working Relationships
- Internal: Finance team, Financial Manager, operational departments
- External: Banks, auditors, regulatory bodies
Performance Measures
- Accuracy and timeliness of reconciliations and financial reporting
- Compliance with statutory and tax requirements
- Accuracy of stock management and reporting
- Effectiveness in supporting audits and financial processes
- Quality and reliability of financial data and records
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing support to the Finance team and Financial Manager
- Assist with ad hoc financial and administrative duties as required
