We are seeking a commercially minded and creatively accomplished Marketing Assistant to work closely with the Marketing Manager in delivering high-quality, insight-driven marketing initiatives. This is a multifaceted role for an emerging marketing professional who can move confidently between creative execution, digital content development and performance analysis.

The successful candidate will combine strong visual communication skills with a sound understanding of marketing principles and consumer engagement. They will be expected to produce polished brand materials using Canva and Microsoft Office, develop compelling newsletters and social media content, and use marketing data to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Marketing and Campaign Support

  • Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of integrated marketing campaigns.

  • Translate marketing objectives into well-executed activities across digital, social media, email and print channels.

  • Coordinate campaign timelines, deliverables, approvals and supporting documentation.

  • Conduct market, customer and competitor research to identify relevant trends and opportunities.

  • Support product launches, promotions, events and brand-awareness initiatives.

  • Liaise professionally with internal stakeholders, external suppliers and service providers.

Graphic Design and Brand Management

  • Create polished and engaging marketing material using Canva and other relevant design tools.

  • Design newsletters, social media graphics, advertisements, presentations, brochures, posters, flyers and promotional material.

  • Adapt creative assets to meet the technical and visual requirements of different platforms.

  • Maintain consistency in the use of brand elements, including typography, colour, imagery, tone and layout.

  • Manage and organise brand assets, templates, photographs and other creative resources.

  • Review all material for visual quality, accuracy and compliance with brand guidelines before publication.

Content Development

  • Draft, edit and proofread compelling content for newsletters, social media, presentations, campaigns and other marketing communications.

  • Develop content that is appropriate for the target audience, communication channel and campaign objective.

  • Assist with maintaining the marketing and social media content calendars.

  • Source suitable imagery, visual references and content ideas.

  • Ensure that all published material is professional, accurate and grammatically correct.

  • Repurpose content effectively across multiple platforms and formats.

Social Media Management

  • Create, schedule and publish content across the organisation’s social media platforms.

  • Monitor audience engagement, comments, messages and emerging conversations.

  • Support the growth of the organisation’s digital presence and online community.

  • Research platform developments, content trends and competitor activity.

  • Assist with paid social media campaigns, including creative preparation, audience selection and performance monitoring.

  • Recommend content improvements based on audience behaviour and campaign results.

Marketing Analytics and Reporting

  • Monitor campaign performance across social media, email, website and other digital channels.

  • Track key performance indicators such as reach, impressions, engagement, website traffic, click-through rates, conversions and audience growth.

  • Prepare clear and accurate weekly, monthly and campaign-specific performance reports.

  • Analyse marketing data to identify trends, insights, opportunities and areas requiring improvement.

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of marketing dashboards.

  • Evaluate campaign effectiveness against agreed objectives and performance measures.

  • Present findings in a concise, visually professional and commercially meaningful manner.

  • Make practical, evidence-based recommendations to improve future marketing activities.

Email Marketing and Newsletters

  • Assist with the planning, design and distribution of email marketing campaigns.

  • Create visually appealing, mobile-friendly newsletters that align with the organisation’s brand.

  • Maintain accurate mailing lists and assist with audience segmentation.

  • Monitor delivery rates, open rates, click-through rates, unsubscribes and conversions.

  • Test links, layouts and content before campaigns are distributed.

  • Use campaign results to recommend improvements to future email communications.

Presentations and Documentation

  • Prepare professional presentations, proposals, reports and marketing documents using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

  • Convert information and data into clear, persuasive and visually engaging presentations.

  • Assist with the preparation of meeting packs, campaign briefs and management reports.

  • Maintain accurate electronic records, filing systems and marketing documentation.

  • Take meeting notes when required and follow up on assigned actions and deadlines.

General Marketing Administration

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Marketing Manager.

  • Maintain marketing schedules, project trackers, databases and campaign records.

  • Assist with obtaining quotations, coordinating suppliers and processing relevant documentation.

  • Monitor deadlines and proactively follow up on outstanding information or approvals.

  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and meeting agreed timelines.

  • Undertake additional marketing-related duties that reasonably fall within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Brand Management, Graphic Design or a related discipline.

  • Additional qualifications or recognised certifications in marketing analytics, digital advertising, content creation or graphic design would be advantageous.

  • Relevant certifications in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Canva or similar platforms would be beneficial.

Experience

  • A minimum of two to three years’ relevant experience in a marketing, communications, digital content or graphic design role.

  • Demonstrable experience creating professional marketing collateral, including newsletters, social media content, presentations, brochures and promotional material.

  • Strong practical experience using Canva to produce polished, brand-aligned visual content.

  • Experience supporting and coordinating marketing campaigns across digital, social media, email and print channels.

  • Practical experience managing social media content calendars, scheduling posts and monitoring engagement.

  • Experience interpreting marketing data and preparing clear performance reports and recommendations.

  • Exposure to email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, HubSpot or similar systems.

  • Experience working with website analytics, social media insights and digital advertising platforms.

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong design ability, attention to detail and versatility across different marketing formats is essential.

Technical Proficiency

  • Advanced proficiency in Canva.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Sound knowledge of marketing analytics tools, including Google Analytics and social media reporting platforms.

  • Familiarity with Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Ads or comparable digital marketing platforms.

  • Working knowledge of email marketing and content-scheduling platforms.

  • Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, photography or video editing would be advantageous.

  • The ability to create reports, dashboards, charts and visually compelling presentations from marketing data.

Knowledge and Competencies

  • A sound understanding of marketing principles, brand management, customer engagement and digital communication.

  • Strong graphic design capability, with a good understanding of typography, colour, composition and visual hierarchy.

  • Excellent written communication, copywriting, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Strong analytical ability and the confidence to interpret data, identify trends and recommend practical improvements.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

  • Excellent planning, organisational and time-management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • A willingness to learn, accept constructive feedback and remain informed about developments in marketing, design and digital media.

The position offers a gross monthly salary of R15 000, commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience and demonstrated capabilities.
