Civil Engineer - Pavement Engineering

Our client, a large international engineering consultancy, is seeking a professionally registered Civil Engineer with a strong background in pavement engineering to join its Transport & Infrastructure team in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer passionate about delivering high-quality roads and transport infrastructure projects while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct pavement investigations, condition assessments, engineering calculations, and technical evaluations.
• Prepare pavement designs, rehabilitation solutions, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Deliver pavement engineering services for roads, highways, municipal roads, and transport infrastructure projects.
• Evaluate pavement materials, surfacing options, rehabilitation strategies, and construction methodologies.
• Review contractor submissions, technical documentation, and project specifications for compliance.
• Provide construction support, site supervision, and delegated contract administration where required.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Assist with proposals, tenders, budgets, resource planning, and business development activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the pavement engineering team.
• Promote strong SHEQ standards and safe engineering practices.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in pavement engineering, roads, highways, or transport infrastructure.
• Experience on SANRAL, provincial, municipal, or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of pavement design, rehabilitation, materials investigations, construction monitoring, and technical reporting.
• Sound understanding of COTO/COLTO specifications, SANRAL standards, and South African pavement design practices.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and relevant pavement engineering software will be advantageous.
