We are looking to recruit an IT Technical Project Manager for our IT Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the scope of what needs to be delivered and translate these into project plans (with a
  • suitable granularity) and schedules while managing risk.
  • Conduct/facilitate Project Planning sessions with project teams.
  • Develop project management plans, charters, progress & status reports.
  • Manage and control the Project Risk and Issue Register.
  • Plan and control project schedules (plans) in line with timelines and target dates.
  • Control project quality during and beyond project delivery and execution.
  • Align, coordinate and lead project teams and their deliverables (including external delivery partners).
  • Conduct project weekly meetings and/or stand-ups with all project team members.
  • Control project scope and manage scope change requests and conduct Project Closeout sessions.
  • Monitor, control and report on project expenditure.
  • Accurate and regular reporting on assigned projects (Steercom and Exco Reports).
  • Own the end-to-end migration approach including data migration planning, reconciliation controls,
  • cutover/rollback strategy, and legacy decommissioning criteria.
  • Coordinate non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security, privacy, observability) and
  • ensure they are translated into executable plans, test approaches, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure the project continuously aligns with the both the Business & IT Strategy.

Stakeholder & Change Management

  • Establish, manage and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the organisation including Senior and Executive Management.
  • Engage cross-functional teams, brokers and business units to ensure project objectives are clearly understood and championed.
  • Drive change management efforts to support smooth implementation and user adoption.
  • Facilitate communication between technical teams, executives, and operational stakeholders.
  • Ensure the project continuously executes in tandem with any change management plans.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships (internal and external).

Risk, Compliance & Security

  • Ensure compliance to the Project Management Governance Framework and supporting processes
  • Ensure all programmes meet regulatory, governance and cyber-security standards—critical in a risk-intensive insurance environment.
  • Collaborate with data and cyber teams to support resilience, privacy, and risk-mitigation strategies.

Governance and Reporting

  • Ensure adherence to governance structures and processes.
  • Provide consolidated weekly and monthly reports on project status, budget, risks, and issues.
  • Report on project budget vs. actual expenditure, governance matters, and project progress.
  • Coaching all staff members on the technical and operational aspects of their roles through monthly one on-ones or when needed.

Required Experience/ Required Knowledge and Skills

  • 5- 8 years' experience leading complex projects (Engineering or IT).
  • A minimum of 5 years as a Technical Program Manager / Senior Project Manager / Delivery Lead in a technology environment, managing initiatives from inception to closeout, preferably within Financial
  • Services. Budgets previously managed should exceed R50m.
  • Experience within Insurance advantageous – specifically within insurance platform implementations (eg: Duck Creek, Guidewire, Sapiens).
  • Proven experience delivering legacy modernisation / core platform replatforming (e.g., policy, claims, billing, underwriting, integration layers) with a track record of managing technical risk and business continuity.
  • Experience planning and executing data migration and cutover activities, including reconciliation, rollback planning, and (where needed) parallel run/dual-write strategies.
  • Sound understanding of short-term insurance.
  • Working knowledge of both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of modern SDLC practices (CI/CD, environments, automated testing, release governance) and non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security, observability) in regulated environments.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering squads and shared services (architecture, data, security, QA, operations), coordinating dependencies and integrated releases.

Educational Requirements

  • Matric
  • Honours Degree (NQF8) in a relevant field (Masters preferred)
  • A recognized Project Management qualification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2)
