Our Client, a leader in the FMCG and Manufacturing industry, is seeking to appoint an experienced Site Engineer to join their dynamic team in Vereeniging (Vaal Triangle). The successful candidate will assume responsibility as the appointed GMR 2.1 Engineer, ensuring the safe, efficient, and legally compliant operation of all plant machinery and engineering systems. Key responsibilities include leading engineering and maintenance functions, driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring asset reliability and performance, managing engineering projects, and maintaining compliance with all relevant health, safety, quality, and statutory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in an FMCG or manufacturing environment and must hold a GCC (Factories) qualification. Applicants must reside in and around Vereeniging.

  • Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • GCC (Factories) qualification is essential.
  • Must be eligible for appointment as the GMR 2.1 Engineer in terms of the General Machinery Regulations.
  • Minimum 5 years' engineering experience within an FMCG, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in plant maintenance, asset management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance principles.
  • Experience managing engineering projects, contractors, and maintenance teams.
  • Sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), General Machinery Regulations (GMR), and other relevant statutory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving plant reliability, reducing downtime, and improving operational efficiencies.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable transport.
  • Residing in or willing to relocate to the Vereeniging / Vaal Triangle area.
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Lean Manufacturing, or TPM methodologies.
  • Fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the appointed GMR 2.1 Engineer, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, General Machinery Regulations, and all applicable statutory requirements.
  • Lead and manage all engineering and maintenance activities across the milling operation to ensure maximum plant availability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programmes for milling, packaging, grain handling, and utility equipment.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all production machinery, including mills, conveyors, elevators, sifters, packing lines, boilers, compressors, and associated equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant performance, reduce downtime, optimise energy consumption, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Manage engineering projects, plant upgrades, and capital expenditure projects from planning through to commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, environmental, and company standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and contractor performance to achieve operational objectives.
  • Develop and mentor engineering and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance.
  • Monitor plant performance metrics and implement strategies to improve equipment reliability and production output.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure the achievement of production targets and customer requirements.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation, maintenance records, statutory inspections, and audits are completed and maintained accurately.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture and ensure effective management of engineering risks, including dust control and machinery safety within the milling environment.
