The Consultant will form a key part of OWCs site-based team during the construction phase of a large-scale solar PV project. Working under the oversight of the OWC site manager and project manager, you will support successful delivery of the project by ensuring that all engineering, construction and quality related activities performed by the EPC contractor meet contractual, technical and regulatory requirements.

What will you be doing?

  • Prepare as required and assist with technical inputs on projects and working on interfaces, with increased responsibility and complexity.
  • Prepare, review, analyse, and interpret technical data independently and accurately.
  • Take on responsibility in site report writing and Technical Note preparation, with a focus on creating initial progress reports and analyses for review by experienced professionals.
  • Undertake more complex analytical work, create, and maintain advanced spreadsheets and databases.
  • Attend meetings together with senior managers and support where needed.
  • Process Compliance and Improvement: Ensure all deliverables comply fully with approved instructions, procedures, and policies, and contribute to process improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive logbooks documenting project progress.
  • Actively engage with mentors and begin mentoring less experienced colleagues, providing insights and guidance on professional growth and project execution.
  • Work productively with teams to deliver innovative solutions and solve moderate scope problems.
  • Adhere to and promote all health and safety guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Responsible for the delivery of quality documents within timelines established by Management and Client and liaise with Clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction.
  • Always comply with the company QHSE policies, manuals, procedures, work systems and regulations at ABL premises, projects and client sites.
  • Conduct detailed site and facilities inspection to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and manage quality documentation, inspection records, test results and as-built drawings.
  • Review of contractor reports and payment milestone certificates.
  • Check alignment between contractor design drawings and construction work.
  • Track contractors progress and compare against weekly program and/or forecasts.
  • All other tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Degree qualification (minimum NQF 4), in Engineering or equivalent with related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience working with engineering renewables focused projects.
  • Experience of working in a site environment and a successful track record of managing a team of multi-disciplinary engineers or consultants.
  • Good working knowledge of engineering principles and practices and the capability to select and apply standard guides, methods, and techniques.
  • Project oriented with a keen interest and knowledge of onshore wind and solar industry and project management.
