Join Woolworths in Cape Town for a 12-month Internship Programme in Governance, Risk and Compliance within the Company Secretarial department at our Head Office. The intern will assist in the coordination of board and committee activities, maintenance of statutory and governance records, monitoring of compliance obligations, updating of risk registers, preparation of reports and presentations and implementation of governance and risk management initiatives.
The role is designed to provide practical exposure to corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance while contributing to the achievement of the organisation's governance and risk objectives.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Candidates must be enrolled through CGISA with a qualification or program at final year NQF7 level or a postgraduate NQF8 Occupational Diploma. A Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in relevant fields is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, assertiveness, and active listening abilities. Basic understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management principles is required, along with the ability to identify, assess, and monitor risks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is necessary. Experience or knowledge in risk register management, board administration, minute taking, data analysis, and document management systems is preferred. Candidates should show analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, professional ethics, and the capacity to support governance, compliance, and risk initiatives effectively. Previous exposure to governance frameworks such as King IV and Enterprise Risk Management methodologies will be advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of board and committee meeting materials.
- Attend meetings and accurately record and draft minutes for board, committee, and management sessions.
- Maintain and update governance records, statutory documentation, and compliance registers.
- Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of organisational risks and maintain risk registers.
- Assist in compliance monitoring and ensure adherence to governance policies and procedures.
- Conduct research on relevant legislation, corporate governance frameworks such as King IV, and industry best practices.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and briefing documents for governance and risk meetings.
- Maintain document management systems, including SharePoint and collaboration tools, ensuring proper record-keeping.
- Support risk awareness and compliance initiatives across the organisation.
- Perform general administrative duties within the Company Secretarial and Risk Department to facilitate smooth operations.
