SUMMARY

We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and project delivery organisation for an experienced Engineering Manager to strengthen its mining projects capability. The successful candidate will help deliver mining and materials-handling projects across the full project lifecycle — from early studies and design through procurement, construction support, commissioning and handover — taking responsibility for the coordination, integration and technical governance of engineering deliverables across multiple disciplines. Sound mechanical engineering judgement and solid materials-handling experience are central to the role, alongside the ability to lead engineering teams to the required quality, safety, cost, schedule and technical standards.

POSITION INFO

Duties & Responsibilities Manage engineering delivery across mining projects through all phases, from study and design through execution, construction support, commissioning and close-out. Lead and integrate multidisciplinary engineering teams spanning mechanical, materials handling, civil, structural, electrical, control and instrumentation, and process disciplines. Provide technical leadership and governance across materials-handling and associated mechanical systems and infrastructure. Review and guide key mechanical and materials-handling design deliverables, including design basis, calculations, equipment selection and related technical requirements. Act as the primary engineering point of contact with the client on scope, deliverables, design interfaces, standards and engineering decisions. Coordinate engineering, procurement, contracts and construction interfaces so that design intent carries through to procurement, installation, commissioning and handover. Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable legislation, client standards, project specifications and relevant engineering standards and procedures. Review project schedules for engineering completeness, discipline interfaces, procurement dependencies, construction sequencing and commissioning readiness. Expedite discipline teams to deliver to schedule, quality and budget, identifying delays and implementing recovery actions where needed. Lead cross-discipline interface management and resolve technical conflicts between disciplines, suppliers, contractors and site teams. Advise project management on scope and design changes, technical deviations, risks, and cost and schedule impacts, and support change control. Participate in design, constructability, operability and safety-in-design reviews, along with risk assessments and relevant technical reviews. Support procurement through technical bid evaluations, vendor documentation reviews, clarifications and expediting of supplier information. Support construction and commissioning through field engineering responses, site queries, technical concessions, close-out of non-conformances and handover deliverables. Contribute to proposals, estimates, execution plans, resourcing, budgets and business development. Experience & Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc / BEng / BTech). Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or equivalent) is preferred. Project management certification (PMP, SACPCMP, PMI or similar) is an advantage. Around 10-15 years' relevant engineering experience in the mining sector, with strong exposure to infrastructure, materials handling and project delivery. Minimum 5 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams as an Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, Design Manager or equivalent. Demonstrated design and project-delivery experience in materials-handling and associated mechanical systems within mining applications, including design review, technical governance, supplier interface and construction or commissioning support. Proven delivery of mining projects in brownfields and/or greenfields environments across studies, design, procurement and construction support. Experience across bulk materials-handling and mineral-processing equipment and infrastructure. Experience managing interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, client and contractor teams. Familiarity with project execution models such as EPCM and owner's-engineer support. Commercial and contractual awareness (e.g. FIDIC, NEC or similar frameworks) is an advantage.
