HOLDING STATION MANAGER - DENEYSVILLE

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Holding Station Manager to join our team at our holding station based in Deneysville. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all Holding Station operations, including the receiving, handling, welfare, movement, inspection, and preparation of cattle. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient flow of livestock while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, operational efficiency, and compliance with company policies and legislation. The ideal candidate will have strong livestock management experience, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining operational excellence within a commercial feedlot environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Manage the daily operations of the Holding Station.
- Supervise the receiving, offloading, inspection, sorting, identification, and allocation of cattle.
- Ensure all livestock is handled humanely in accordance with animal welfare legislation and company standards.
- Monitor cattle health and immediately report injuries, illness, or abnormal behaviour.
- Liaise with Veterinary Services regarding inspections, treatments, vaccinations, and disease control measures.
- Coordinate the movement of cattle between receiving facilities, holding pens, quarantine areas, feedlot sections, and loading facilities.
- Ensure accurate livestock identification, tagging, weighing, and record keeping.
- Monitor stocking densities to minimise stress and ensure animal comfort.
- Ensure cattle have continuous access to clean water and feed where required.
- Maintain strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
- Inspect and maintain holding pens, loading ramps, fencing, water systems, and handling facilities.
- Report maintenance requirements and equipment defects promptly.
- Supervise, train, and develop Holding Station employees.
- Allocate daily duties and monitor staff productivity and performance.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and enforce safe working practices.
- Maintain accurate livestock movement records, reports, and operational documentation.
- Liaise with Procurement, Transport, Feedlot Operations, Veterinary Services, and Senior Management to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Investigate livestock losses, injuries, escapes, or operational incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the Holding Station.
- Optimise labour and resources to maximise operational efficiency.
- Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Requirements
- Matric Certificate (Grade 12).
- Preference will be given to candidates who are in possession of a diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Livestock Production, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' related experience in cattle handling, feedlot operations, or livestock management.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Sound knowledge of cattle behaviour, animal welfare, and livestock handling practices.
- Knowledge of biosecurity procedures and livestock identification systems.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Must be prepared to work overtime, weekends, public holidays and do standby.
- Good health.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Own reliable transport.
