Qualified Shutterhand - Building Construction

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Shutterhand / Formwork Carpenter to perform all activities related to the construction and removal of concrete formwork on building construction projects. The successful candidate will work from drawings and specifications to ensure that formwork is erected accurately, safely, and in accordance with project requirements.The shutterhand will be responsible for constructing, erecting, aligning, and dismantling temporary formwork (shuttering) used to shape concrete structures such as foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, and staircases.

Key Responsibilities

Read Drawings: Interpret structural blueprints and engineering plans to mark out correct layouts and dimensions.Build Formwork: Cut, measure, and assemble timber, plywood, or system panels to create molds for foundations, columns, beams, and slabs.Erect and Secure: Position, align, and brace shuttering safely using measuring tapes, plumb-bobs, and scaffolding supports.Assist Concrete Works: Check alignment during concrete pours, and later safely strip, clean, and store the formwork panels.Site Safety: Comply with South African Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) acts, use correct PPE, and maintain a hazard-free work area.

Industry Building Construction

Experience Minimum 3–5 years

Qualification Trade Test / Formwork or Carpentry qualification advantageous

Skills Formwork erection, alignment, reading drawings, dismantling

Safety Valid safety induction; working at heights where applicable

Experience on a civil or building construction site.Skills: Strong physical strength, good balance for working at heights, basic math for measurements, and team collaboration
