Intermediate Java Developer (Financial Markets)

We are looking for an experienced Intermediate Java Developer to join our Capital Markets technology team. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, enhancement, and support of high-performance financial applications used within trading and risk management environments.

This role is ideal for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and has exposure to financial markets or investment banking systems.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications supporting Capital Markets and Trading environments.
• Develop high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, and related technologies.
• Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including analysis, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, QA Engineers, and fellow developers to deliver business solutions.
• Develop and enhance functionality for trading, pricing, market data, and risk management applications.
• Analyse and resolve software defects, performance issues, and production incidents within agreed service levels.
• Write clean, well-documented, and reusable code that adheres to established coding standards and best practices.
• Develop and execute unit tests and support integration and user acceptance testing activities.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Work with source control, build pipelines, and CI/CD processes to deliver quality software.
• Maintain technical documentation relating to application design, implementation, and support.
• Keep current with modern Java technologies and industry best practices.
• Support production releases and provide ongoing application support where required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
• Minimum 5 years' Java development experience
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Java 8 or better
  • Spring Boot
  • JBoss
  • REST APIs
  • SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Git
  • Maven
• Experience developing enterprise applications
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Financial Markets Experience

Applicants should have exposure to one or more of the following areas:

• Capital Markets
• Investment Banking
• Treasury
• Trading
• Risk Management
• Asset Management

Exposure to financial instruments such as:

• Bonds, Interest Rate Swaps, FX
• Money Market products
• Fixed Income products

will be beneficial.

Advantageous Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working on:

• Front Office trading systems
• Trading platforms
• Pricing engines
• Risk systems
• Market data platforms
• Trade lifecycle management systems

Highly Advantageous

Candidates with quantitative development experience will have a significant advantage, including experience with:

• Pricing financial instruments
• Financial mathematics
• Numerical methods
• Quantitative libraries
