We are currently seeking an experienced
Industrial Relations (IR) Officer to join our team within the construction industry. This role is ideal for a confident and knowledgeable IR professional who has extensive experience managing disciplinary processes, representing the company in labour matters, and ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation.
As this position requires regular travel to various sites, a valid Code B driver's licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage disciplinary processes from initiation through to conclusion.
- Chair and/or facilitate disciplinary hearings.
- Represent the company during CCMA conciliations and arbitrations.
- Prepare documentation and evidence bundles for labour-related matters.
- Provide expert advice on labour legislation, policies, and IR best practices.
- Ensure compliance with the Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), and other applicable legislation.
- Conduct workplace investigations into misconduct and grievances.
- Support managers with employee relations matters and conflict resolution.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures across multiple sites.
- Maintain accurate IR records, reports, and documentation.
- Travel to operational sites as required to provide IR support.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or a related qualification.
- Minimum 3–5 years' proven Industrial Relations experience, preferably within the construction, engineering, or related industry.
- Extensive experience conducting disciplinary hearings and managing grievance procedures.
- Proven experience representing employers at CCMA conciliations and arbitrations.
- Strong working knowledge of South African labour legislation.
- Excellent report writing, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Valid Code B driver's licence (essential).
- Willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within the construction or contracting environment.
- Exposure to unionised workforces.
- Experience working across multiple operational sites.
