SUMMARY

Our client, a leading South African defence and security company, is looking for a Software Engineer to join their team. The organisation delivers electronic warfare systems, sensor technology, training systems, avionics, and security solutions across air, land, sea, and civil security domains, supporting customers throughout Africa and internationally.

This role is focused on taking safety-critical products through the RTCA DO-178C software development lifecycle, from planning and requirements through design, development, verification, and validation, while also supporting embedded projects with similar technical demands outside strict airborne certification requirements

POSITION INFO

Key responsibilities Analyse system-level requirements and translate them into software high-level requirements Write test cases to verify high-level software requirements Write and review V-Model (RTCA DO-178C) documentation Develop embedded and application-level software source code Verify and validate software functionality Participate in software integration, including defect investigation and resolution Provide technical leadership for a small SCRUM-based team What you'll bring 5+ years of software development experience Strong C/C++ development skills Experience in safety-critical software environments Strong requirement analysis and technical writing skills Familiarity with embedded operating systems A BEng (Computer Engineering) or equivalent BSc qualification Military or defence sector experience is advantageous This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced embedded software engineer to work on complex, high-integrity systems within a well-established defence and security business.
