Our client, a South African dairy manufacturer based in the Durbanville region is looking for a Quality Assurance Manager to join their team.
Operating in a highly regulated environment, they continuously invest in quality systems, innovation and operational excellence. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining the company's Food Safety and Quality Management System to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and certification requirements.
The successful candidate will oversee all quality assurance and quality control activities, ensure the consistent production of safe, legal, and high-quality dairy products while driving a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, customer requirements, and applicable food legislation.
- Maintain food safety policies, procedures, work instructions, and records.
- Manage the Food Safety Team.
- Facilitate HACCP studies and ensure hazard analyses remain current.
- Review and validate hazard analyses, Prerequisite Programmes (PRPs), Operational PRPs (OPRPs), and Critical Control Points (CCPs).
- Ensure HACCP plans are reviewed following any process, ingredient, equipment, or regulatory changes.
- Schedule and chair regular Food Safety Team meetings.
- Record meeting minutes and monitor the completion of action items.
- Communicate food safety issues to senior management.
- Plan and coordinate internal and external food safety audits.
- Plan and coordinate ZA audits.
- Manage supplier quality assurance.
- Investigate food safety incidents and non-conformances.
- Conduct root cause analysis.
- Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Monitor quality trends and recurring issues.
- Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for finished products.
- Prepare and chair regular Food Safety Team meetings.
- Report food safety issues and resource requirements to Top Management.
- Liaise with external consultants, contractors, laboratories, and regulatory bodies on food safety matters.
- Communicate with customers regarding complaints and quality-related issues.
- Liaise with retailers and customers regarding product specifications, food safety documentation, and any required quality information.
- Supervise QA/QC personnel and sanitation teams.
- Deliver food safety and quality training, including GMP, HACCP, and allergen management.
- Promote a strong food safety culture and continuous improvement through root cause analysis and preventive actions.
REQUIREMENTS
- BSc Degree in Food Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in food manufacturing.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining a Quality Management System.
- Experience in managing and developing staff.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong team player.
- Well organized, reliable, and punctual.
R25 000 – R30 000 (negotiable depending on experience)
Must be willing to work throughout December due to peak season demands
