Context/Scope: Tongaat Hulett has a proud 131-year history and a strong socio-economic legacy in KwaZulu-Natal province, in South Africa, and into sub-Saharan Africa. Technical operations include the following: -
Four Sugar Manufacturing mills situated on along the North coast of Kwa Zulu Natal stretching from Tongaat through to Empangeni.
A sugar Refining operation based in South Coast Road Durban
An animal feeds manufacturing plant situated in Tongaat alongside the Maidstone Sugar Mill.
A technical operations support comprising technical specialists who provide high level support to the operations both in South Africa and foreign operations.

Tongaat Hulett’s focus is on re-energising assets that will be cash-generative and exploring new customer segments.

Qualifications, Experience And Competencies Required
Minimum N3 Mechanical and Trade Test. Completed apprenticeship as Mechanical Fitter
Maintenance and production experience in heavy industry.
Dynamic, work under pressure, sober habits and work with people at all levels.
Accountabilities
- To maintain all machines under his control in good condition.
- To provide welding, rigging and Boilermaking services to all departments.
- To fabricate and maintain cane preparation knives, hammers to the satisfaction of the Operations team.
- Authorise stores withdrawals.
- Initiate purchase requisitions for authorisation by Plant Engineer.
- 100 % availability of relevant machinery.
- To ensure that tool registers are kept, subordinates have correct PPE and that Safe Work Procedures are adopted where required.
- Set tasks for subordinates and monitor completion of scheduled maintenance to standard. Provide leadership and motivation for said subordinates.
Participate in plant upgrade and project initiatives as they may arise and under the direction of the Plant Engineer.
