We are looking for a DevOps Engineer - Kafka to join our financial services client based in Sandton for a 12-month contract role.

The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for owning and driving the evolution, stability, and performance of enterprise Kafka platforms while supporting the automation, security, and operational excellence of critical technology assets. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with Kafka administration, DevOps practices, cloud platforms, and infrastructure automation, working closely with engineering teams to ensure highly available, secure, and scalable solutions.

POSITION INFO

What you will be doing: Own and support the lifecycle, health, and continuous improvement of enterprise Kafka platforms. Administer and maintain Kafka environments, including Confluent Platform and/or Confluent Cloud. Design, implement, and optimise DevOps pipelines and infrastructure automation. Develop automation scripts using Python and Bash. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support platform deployments. Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or Ansible. Monitor platform performance, availability, and reliability through proactive observability. Configure and maintain monitoring solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, or Azure Monitor. Implement and maintain Kafka security, including TLS/SSL, SASL, and ACL configurations. Troubleshoot Linux-based systems and resolve complex platform issues. Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform resilience, scalability, and operational efficiency. Provide technical leadership and contribute to the continuous improvement of DevOps and platform engineering practices. What we are looking for: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years' experience in Systems or Platform Engineering. Minimum of 4 years' hands-on experience administering Kafka platforms. Experience with Confluent Platform and/or Confluent Cloud. Strong DevOps and automation experience. Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting. Experience with CI/CD pipelines. Hands-on experience with Terraform and/or Ansible. Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. Cloud experience, preferably with Microsoft Azure. Strong understanding of Kafka security, including TLS/SSL, SASL, and ACLs. Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, or Azure Monitor. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
