Procurement Manager - Livestock & Agribusiness

A highly reputable and established major player in the South African red meat value chain is seeking a strategic and operationally sound Procurement Manager to head up their livestock sourcing and abattoir scheduling operations.

Based primarily at their offices in Cullinan, this role bridges the gap between commercial agribusiness strategy and field operations. You will be directly responsible for driving livestock procurement initiatives, optimizing the weekly abattoir slaughter schedules, and expanding a robust producer network across both commercial and specialized supply protocols.

Reporting directly to the Livestock Director, this position offers an exceptional opportunity for a senior agricultural professional looking to transition field or factory floor expertise into a high-level strategic management role.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 16:00 / 07:30 – 16:30 (Includes 1-hour lunch)

1. strategic livestock procurement & producer relations

• Develop, implement, and monitor robust livestock procurement strategies and goal-setting frameworks for all field personnel.
• Nurture, maintain, and aggressively expand supplier relationships and the producer base across key agricultural regions.
• Enforce and align strategic supply programs, including Free Range (FR) programs, Calendar farmers, and specialized Weaner lamb/beef initiatives.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders—including animal feed manufacturers and veterinary medicine companies—to support corporate supply chain goals.
• Manage live-weight and carcass purchase price strategies to protect operational margins.

2. Daily operational & slaughter management

• Take full operational accountability for total livestock procurement requirements: slaughter-ready cattle and lamb, weaner cattle and lamb, and informal market protocols.
• Manage, coordinate, and optimize the weekly slaughter and logistics schedules for the abattoirs to ensure maximum plant utilization and eliminate bottlenecks.
• Liaise continuously with field buyers, agricultural agents, and producers to ensure seamless delivery timelines.

Required qualifications & experience

• Education: A completed Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Management, or Animal Science is required.
• Industry Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of operational experience within the meat processing, abattoir, or livestock industry is essential.
• Managerial Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in an agricultural management or leadership capacity.
• Procurement Expertise: 5 to 7 years of proven experience in commercial procurement, agricultural buying, or supply chain coordination.

Remuneration: R70,000 – R90,000 per month (Negotiable depending on experience) + Performance Bonus + Death & Disability Benefits
