PROJECT DIRECTOR - RENEWABLE ENERGY - CAPE TOWN

To provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and governance for the project, ensuring it is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while protecting the commercial, contractual, and reputational interests of the business. The Project Director is responsible for building and leading a high-performing, integrated project team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, investors, lenders, contractors, regulators, and other key stakeholders.

While the Construction Director has responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of day-to-day site activities, the Project Director has overall accountability for the project as a whole—its strategy, governance, commercial performance, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and successful delivery from inception through to commissioning and handover.

• Relevant degree (engineering, construction management, or similar) or equivalent experience.
• Professional membership (e.g., relevant chartered institution) is desirable.
• Proven track record operating at Project Director (or equivalent senior) on large scale projects.
• Strong background in leading multi-disciplinary teams, ideally with prior site-based experience even though this role is now office-based.
• Experience managing senior client and stakeholder relationships, including at board level.
• Sound commercial and contractual acumen.
• Strong strategic and analytical thinking, balanced with pragmatic decision-making.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Strong grasp of project controls: programme, cost, risk, and quality reporting.
• Confident presenting to and influencing senior boards and clients.
• Strong communicator, able to translate complexity into clear direction for the team and clear assurance for stakeholders.
• Comfortable holding others to account, including experienced senior peers such as the Construction Director.
• Resilient and able to sustain momentum and morale over a long project lifecycle.
