Senior Development Manager

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the position is to manage the development department through overseeing the design, development, construction and project management of new and existing retail stores, thereby ensuring continuous growth of our retail footprint.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Achieve agreed targets and budgets for assigned financial responsibilities.

Achieve the agreed retailer profitability and sustainability outcomes as per the feasibility study.

Manage a team of professionally qualified project managers and designers

Accept accountabilities for all legislative and regulatory requirements pertaining to the project schedule

Ensure that all SPAR Group branding and imaging specifications are maintained, and a culture of innovation is instilled in the department

Manage the DC’s preferred supplier listing

Control and manage supplier costs, identify new opportunities with suppliers and manage same performance

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Senior Certificate (Matric) Pre-requisite

Appropriate Tertiary Qualification (Project Management)

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a middle management role

Retail and operational finance experience mandatory

Previous experience with design and development particularly in food retail mandatory

Understanding of lease and fitout requirements advantageous

Willingness to travel and work long hours when required (store visits/launches)

Ability to coach and mentor

Possess the necessary skills to build strategic working relationships with retailers and DC staff

Negotiation and good communication skills

Excellent planning and organising skills

Able to work independently

Valid Driver's license

Prior experience may compensate for qualifications not met.
