You'll work with cutting-edge High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering and Log Shipping, while collaborating with experienced Infrastructure, Cloud and Development teams on enterprise-scale solutions. They are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join their Infrastructure team, where you'll take ownership of mission-critical SQL Server environments supporting production, development, UAT and disaster recovery platforms. This is more than a traditional DBA role. You'll partner with developers, infrastructure engineers and cloud specialists to optimise database performance, strengthen security, improve resilience and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance the organisation's technology landscape. Duties: Installing, configuring, upgrading and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server environments across Production, UAT, Development and Disaster Recovery platforms. Monitoring database health, availability, capacity and performance to ensure optimal service delivery. Implementing and maintaining High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Replication and Log Shipping. Designing and managing backup, restore and recovery strategies to support business continuity. Optimising database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies and execution plan analysis. Working closely with developers to resolve performance bottlenecks and improve application efficiency. Implementing and maintaining database security, encryption, permissions and access controls. Developing automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell to streamline database administration tasks. Investigating and resolving complex production incidents while performing root cause analysis. Maintaining database documentation, operational standards and governance practices. Identifying opportunities to improve database reliability, scalability and operational efficiency. Job Experience & Skills Required: Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) Degree or Diploma in Information Technology or related discipline. Experience: Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server within enterprise production environments. Strong experience in SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades and maintenance. Advanced T-SQL scripting and database administration expertise. Proven experience with performance tuning, query optimisation and database monitoring. Strong knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies. Experience with backup, restore and recovery planning. Hands-on experience implementing SQL Server security, encryption and permissions. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate. Microsoft SQL Server or Data Platform certifications. Microsoft Azure Administrator certification. Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance experience. PowerShell scripting and automation experience. ITIL Foundation certification. Experience within Financial Services or another highly regulated environment. Skills & Competencies: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High level of ownership, accountability and attention to detail. Ability to prioritise and manage multiple critical workloads.
