Join a leading private hospital in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, as a Critical Care Trained Registered Nurse. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate professional with ICU nursing experience, strong clinical expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

*Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based critical care nursing to patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in accordance with hospital policies, protocols, and best practice standards.

*Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuously monitor critically ill patients, promptly identifying and responding to changes in their clinical condition.

*Provide specialised nursing care to ventilated, haemodynamically unstable, and high-acuity patients requiring intensive monitoring and interventions.

*Operate and monitor advanced critical care equipment, including mechanical ventilators, invasive monitoring devices, infusion pumps, and renal replacement therapy equipment where applicable.

*Administer prescribed medications, intravenous therapies, inotropes, sedatives, analgesics, and blood products safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies.

*Interpret and monitor vital signs, arterial blood gases, ECG rhythms, and other diagnostic results to facilitate timely clinical interventions.

*Assist with and support emergency procedures, resuscitations, intubations, central line insertions, and other critical care interventions within the ICU environment.

*Collaborate effectively with intensivists, physicians, allied healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.

*Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.

*Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control measures, patient safety initiatives, and quality assurance protocols, including the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.

*Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, prognosis, and ongoing care requirements.

*Participate actively in discharge planning and facilitate safe transfers of patients to high care, general wards, or external healthcare facilities where required.

*Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and the implementation of evidence-based practices within the ICU.

*Mentor, supervise, and support junior nursing staff, students, and newly appointed team members to promote professional development and clinical excellence.

*Maintain professional competency through continuous professional development, ongoing education, and adherence to the standards and regulations of the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

*Demonstrate the ability to function effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced critical care environment while delivering exceptional patient-centred care.

Education

*Diploma/Degree in Critical Care Nursing

*Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an General Nurse.

*Diploma/Degree in General Nursing

*8+ Years Experience in a Critical Care Department

Experience

*Previous ICU Nursing Experience.

*8+ Years Experience in ICU Department

*Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced ICU Department.

*Strong communication and teamwork skills.

*BLS certification advantageous.

*ACLS certification advantageous.
