2x Buyers - Fresh Produce

Our client in the Perishable Retail Industry, requires the services of a 2x Buyers for the fresh produce division.

Key performance areas

• Planning and executing the buying strategy for fresh produce, including negotiating with farmers and suppliers to secure the best prices and quality.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with farmers, ensuring compliance with food safety systems and quality standards.
• Driving sales growth and maximizing gross profit margins for the assigned buying category.
• Managing stock levels to ensure product availability while minimizing waste, shortages, and spoilage.
• Regularly visiting farms, competitors, and markets to analyze trends, competitor pricing, and consumer demand to inform purchasing decisions.
• Adhering to company policies on buying and trading, including processing purchase orders, verifying invoices, and managing logistics.
• Coordinating with marketing and store operations to select, plan, and execute promotional activities.

The successful candidate must have

• Matric with a relevant degree
• At least 2 - 4 years’ experience in a similar field
• Must have in-depth knowledge of fruit and/ or vegetables
• Previous buying and trading experience required.
• Management experience in a packhouse environment will be advantageous.
• Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel)
• Proven track record of performance, reliability, and professional conduct.
• Strong analytical skills are essential
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have a driver’s licence
