Junior Design Engineer

RecruitPro is recruiting on behalf of a client in the engineering sector, based in Alrode, Alberton, for a Junior Design Engineer to join their design and simulation team. This is a strong entry point for a graduate engineer looking to build a career in CAD design, simulation, and product development within the mining equipment space.

Draughting: producing CAD drawings for parts and assemblies, reviewing draughting output, managing PLM models, and keeping Bills of Material current.

Design: developing concepts for product improvement, reverse engineering, and preparing CAD models for simulation, including weld and chamfer work.

Simulation: running FEA, DEM, and MBD simulations, interpreting results, and validating models through scale or field testing.

Scanning: reverse engineering components using traditional measurement and laser scanning (FARO Focus3D), including point-cloud processing — this involves local and occasional international mine site visits.

Sales support: joining site visits as a technical advisor, and helping build presentations and marketing material, including simulation videos.

General: contributing to ISO-aligned process improvement, supporting commissioning and troubleshooting, preparing technical reports, and managing your own project workload.

What you'll need

• B.Eng in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (University graduates with a 65%+ average)
• 1–3 years' experience; mining or design exposure is a plus
• Working knowledge of CAD, with exposure to FEA an advantage
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Solid Microsoft Office skills
• Physically able to handle site-based duties
• A team player who's also comfortable working independently

Hours: Mon–Thu 08:00–17:00 or 07:00–16:00, Fri 08:00–13:00, with occasional after-hours work depending on project needs.

Mostly office-based, with occasional trips to open-cast mine sites and fabrication facilities (local and international).

Remuneration: market related.
