Senior Electrical & Automation Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical & Automation Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Cape Town. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept and design through to commissioning while delivering innovative automation solutions across a variety of industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs and schematics using EPLAN or similar software
• Design industrial control panels and prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Programme PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell Studio 5000
• Develop SCADA and HMI applications
• Select electrical components and support procurement activities
• Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and workshop testing
• Provide site installation support and commissioning services
• Perform electrical and automation fault finding and troubleshooting
• Develop, maintain, and improve company electrical design standards

Requirements

• BEng, BTech, or Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in industrial automation (8+ years preferred)
• Strong electrical design experience
• Proven PLC and SCADA programming expertise
• Experience with industrial instrumentation, including 4–20 mA, RTDs, Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP
• Sound knowledge of MCCs, VSDs, motor control systems, and industrial control panels
• Willingness to travel for commissioning when required
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
